Other logic circuits
The inverter is the first example of a type of digital circuit that’s normally called a gate. Other logic gates are, in fact, based on the inverter and are made up from adaptations of it. There are a handful of logic gates that make up all digital circuits, from simple switches through to complex computers.
Other logic gates we need to know about are covered over the next few pages. They are all based on the principles of digital logic we’ve already looked at, though. However, before we discuss them, it’s important for us to see that they’re all based on a particular form of logic, which is essentially mathematical, known as Boolean algebra.
